Registration Deadlines
2008

Voter registration forms are available at county boards of elections as well as many post offices, libraries and state agency offices throughout the state.

Remember that there are two ELECTION DATES for 2008:
  • Primary Election: September 9, 2008
  • General Election: November 4, 2008

    2008 PRIMARY ELECTION
    Registration Deadlines

    By MAIL: August 15th

    Applications must be postmarked not later than August 15th and received by a board of elections not later than August 20th to be eligible to vote in the Primary Election. Sec.5-210(3

    IN-PERSON: August 15th.

    You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the Fall primary, your application must be received no later than August 15th. Secs. 5-210, 5-211, 5-212

    2008 GENERAL ELECTION
    Registration Deadlines

    By MAIL: October 10th

    Applications must be postmarked not later than October 10th and received by a board of elections not later than October 15th to be eligible to vote in the General Election. Sec. 5-210(3)

    IN-PERSON: October 10th

    You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the November General Election, your application must be received no later than October 10th except, if you have been honorably discharged from the military or have become a naturalized citizen since October 10th, you may register in person at the board of elections up until October 24th.     CHANGE OF ADDRESS

    If you are a registered voter in the State of New York who has moved to a new county within the State of New York, remember you must re-register in your new county to be eligible to vote at your new address.

    Currently registered voters who have moved to a new address in the same county should notify their county board of elections in writing of their move no later than October 15th in order that the change be processed and entered in the records in time for the 2008 General Election. The Registration Form can be used for this purpose.

    PRIMARY CHANGE OF ADDRESS by August 20th

    Notices of change of address from registered voters received by August 20th by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for the 2008 Primary Election. Sec. 5-208(3)

    GENERAL CHANGE OF ADDRESS by October 15th

    Notices of change of address from registered voters received by October 15th by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for the general election. Sec. 5-208(3)
